Arthroscopy Surgery

What Is Arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy is a modern diagnostic and therapeutic method that allows direct visualization of intra-articular structures. Compared to traditional open surgery, it requires much smaller incisions (typically 0.5-1 cm). Knee Arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is a modern surgical method used for diagnosis and treatment of many conditions affecting the knee joint. Cartilage damage, ligament injuries, and meniscus problems in the knee can be treated with arthroscopic methods.

  • Ankle ligament injuries (lateral ligament complex)
  • Cartilage damage (osteochondral lesions)

Arthroscopy Process

  1. Preparation: Detailed examination, X-ray and MRI for diagnosis. Patient suitability for surgery is evaluated.
  2. Anesthesia: General, spinal, or regional anesthesia is applied. The patient is fully anesthetized or numbed from the waist down.
  3. Surgical Procedure: Arthroscope and instruments are inserted into the joint through 0.5-1 cm incisions. Intra-articular structures are visualized on monitor; if needed, treatment is applied (meniscus repair, ligament reconstruction, cartilage correction, etc.).
  4. Post-operative: Incision sites are sutured, sterile bandages applied. Patient is taken to recovery room.

Who Is Suitable?

Arthroscopy surgery is recommended for: Mechanical symptoms in joint (locking, catching, giving-way sensation), chronic joint pain not responding to conservative treatment, sports injuries, young and active patients, those requiring quick return to daily life.

Complications

Arthroscopy surgery is a safe procedure but some complications can occur: Infection (<1%), bleeding, nerve injury (usually temporary), blood clot formation, anesthesia-related complications. These risks are at minimal levels.
